If you are developer and someone ask you about open source. Most
probably, your first example would be joomla and word press. What is joomla
& word press? If you want to develop your own website and you don’t have
that much programming skill, you will go for CMS (content management system).
Joomla and wordpress are the most popular open source, free, PHP-based CMS
platforms for publishing content on the internet. Both of them provide many
similar features but they do not do it equally well. So, let’s compare them.
The best and short words for wordpress would be “it is simple”. If you are blogger, you may download latest version of wordpress plugin, apply some themes and it can be your blog in internet. A simple attribute that keeps wordpress on top is simplicity. Extremely easy to setup and use. Despite the simplicity, customization is not wordpress’s strong point. That makes it less popular among developers. Wordpress is only preferred in projects which do not require much changes in the structure of CMS. However WP is extremely best for blogging. A majority of local and international new website (with blogging section) are jacked by word press. Some examples are express tribune, global voices and the dawn blog.
The word Joomla is English spelling for Swahili word “Jumla” which means “all together” or “as a whole”. Joomla CMS powered by trades like design, development and user experience. Developers prefer this CMS for its best designing, which turns it to a perfect looking website. It also allows developer to customize code to large extend, by the help of more than 5,000 free commercial plugins available to make it perfect for end users. On the other hand, joomla is still fat away from being the best PHP-based CMS, as it allows the developer to override its own original code.
